Caldera Sunset View in Santorini
…taking it all in
ATHENS
-part three-
The cab driver also told me how the economy was “no good” and “super bad” (he liked the word super, he used that one on a shockingly large amount of occasions throughout the convo). Though I had previously heard of the struggles of Greece’s current economy, I hadn’t imagined its state to be in such despair. Even food and hotels were “dirt cheap”, so to speak. On top of that, when I gave him a two euro tip out of the kindness of my heart (and thankfulness at making it to the hotel in one piece), he jumped out of the car and gave me a hug! Not kidding. He said “oh thank you thank you, you great, you beautiful!” Funny how he didn’t mention anything about my good looks and charm before I gave him a pretty little penny or two ;) I muttered my goodbyes real quick, because you know what they say. If you give a mouse a cookie…
Sidenote: I found it quite interesting that the cab driver and my restaurant server in Athens guessed that I was of British or Mediterranean descent! It seemed pretty random to me, but then again, I have gotten all kinds of ethnicities from Spanish to Irish to Australian…you name it!
Although it was pouring rain when I headed to visit the Acropolis which was a major bummer, Greece completely stunned me! I can’t wait to return someday in the future and relive these amazing experiences once again.
